Why We Are Different
DPS Authorized Road Test FAQs
Is your academy authorized to give the official Texas road test?
Yes, Learn 2 Drive Academy is a state-approved Third-Party Skills Testing (TPST) Center certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). We administer the identical official driving test given at the DPS office, and it counts exactly the same toward earning your license.
Can I use a driving school vehicle to take my official road test?
We provide packages that allow you to rent our modern, fully insured, and test-ready school vehicles for your exam. This eliminates the hassle of passing strict vehicle safety checks in your own car.
What specific vehicle safety checks must a personal car pass before a road test?
If you bring your own vehicle, it must pass a basic pre-test safety check by our examiner. The vehicle must have current registration, valid matching auto insurance, fully functional brake lights, working turn signals, a loud horn, intact seat belts, properly adjusted mirrors, functional doors, a clear windshield free of cracks that obstruct visibility, and tires in good condition.
What specific skills and maneuvers will the examiner look for during the test?
During the approximate 20-minute real-world drive, our certified examiners evaluate smooth vehicle control (steering, acceleration, braking), correct intersection safety, right-of-way awareness, proper signaling, and consistent use of mirrors and physical “head checks” for blind spots. You will also be tested on parallel parking and straight-line reversing for roughly 50 feet.
What happens immediately after I pass my road test at your academy?
Once you pass, our certified examiner provides you with your immediate score feedback and hands you the official sealed DPS certificate paperwork. You will take this sealed envelope directly to your local DPS office to complete processing and have your actual hard-card license printed without any further driving tests required.
